The latest Sony Bravia can detect when people leave the front of their television sets, so what it does is to turn into dim mode to save electricity. But although Sony was one of the first that came with the brilliant idea of a person-detecting television, Philips comes first with a computer monitor that can detect when its users are still in front of their screens.
This PowerSensor function works independently from the operating system (it disregards whatever OS you might have), and allows you to save energy. Every time the sensor detects you are not in front of the LCD displays, it will dim. It can reduce power consumption by as much as 50 percent.
One can wish that this function will be available in all monitors and television sets in the future. But I highly doubt this will be a thing of the future. There are lot of things that can go wrong with this feature including the monitor not being able to turning on when you need it to.
